Český Krumlov

Exploring Bohemia

Český Krumlov a medieval town with Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architecture elements characterized as one of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Monuments, it is located on the banks of Vltava River. Visiting Český Krumlov could be an easy and interesting daytrip from Prague but is better to spend at least a night there.

For a nice hiking and panoramic view of the town and its surroundings take a trail from the bus station to křížová cesta. From the top of the hill, you will realize how beautiful is the old town and how ugly are the soviet Panelák buildings around.

Český Krumlov State Castle is one of the most significant historic sites in Central Europe and the second bigger castle complex in Czech Republic after Prague Castle. The construction of the castle took place from 13th to 19th centuries. As you arrive to the castle you can see bears in the moat. The bear-keeping tradition goes back to 16th century.
