¡6 days in Barcelona!
¡ Que Buen Viaje to start the year!!! A combination of seeing a couple really good friends, making some new ones, and wandering and drifting around in this multi-culti atmosphere that the city has. Being hosted in Gracia- quite a hip area by the way, using my T10 transportation ticket and walking (a lot) exploring the city!
I could not go to Barcelona without a trip to see the work of Gaudi, so I went to visit Park Güell. It is an enchanting park perched on Muntanya Pelada (bare mountain) a hill in the city. A little history- The park was started in 1900, a commission by Eusebi Güell who asked the eminent Antoni Gaudí to design the estate for the Guell family. It is an incredible blend of practicality and surreal imagery. Like many of Gaudi’s works it blends motifs from nature with the art of human technology and form. Park Guell has symbolic content as well, a relationship with classical Greece, the Christian tradition and Catalonia

Another Gaudi work, and one of Barcelona’s ‘’trademarks ‘’ that I saw and was totally impressed by was the SagradaFamilia. The Cathedral was started in 1882 and Gaudi devoted himself to the project until his death in 1926. Since then different architects have continued the work. The construction is still going on and with any luck it will be finished sometime in the next twenty years.

When I am in a city that I don’t really know, I enjoy a lot to walk around without having a specific spot in mind to go, and without using a map to see where I will end up. This feeling of exploration and discovery is indescribable!!!!
Here is some street art that I found…

As I was walking in the city:
Here there are some impressive buildings that I picked up:
I really like the vibe of the city the ambience, the people and the food. A lot of things are going on music, art, dance, events … I went to see one flamenco show in some little bar in the center of the town it was so intense, just amazing!!!
I love cities on the coast. Barcelona is one of them with a fantastic port and a big trade port. You can have a great view of the ports by climbing to the top of Barcelona’s Montjuïc Mountain from the Montjuïc Castle. The castle is 170 meters above sea level, so use some bus or car cable (I climbed it on foot …not a very good idea ;P especially on a rainy day like it was)

Something else that I want to share is my experience on the top of the hill in Bunkers del Carmel. From there you can have the best panoramic view of the city and the sea. It’s just amazing and not very touristic. Watch out for the cliff though!
